What vehicle will we use?

What are we trying to achieve?

  • Develop the driver’s understanding of the problem areas in driving a light commercial vehicle, such as those resulting from size and rearward vision.
  • How to effectively handle the pressures resulting from multi-drop deliveries.

How will we do it??

The programme takes drivers through urban environments, multi-lane, high- speed roads, and cross-country routes. We specifically focus on environments where commercial vehicle accidents are likely to occur.

The course includes licence and eye-sight checks, and incorporates slow-speed manoeuvring and parking exercises.

Trailer Towing and Mobile Offices

How many in the class and how long does it last?

Ratio: 1:1

Duration: 1 day as part of a defensive driving course.

Where is it?

At a location to suit you.

What vehicle will we use?

We’ll use your choice of vehicle plus a trailer.

What are we trying to achieve?

  • Develop an understanding of the principles of towing a trailer and related legislation.

How will we do it??

Participants are provided with an awareness of trailer characteristics whilst braking and travelling at speed. Using a series of exercises, the course focuses on delivering the skills required to safely perform a series of reversing exercises and loading practises.

D1 Minibus Training

Duration: 1 – 3 days

What vehicle will we use?

We’ll use your choice of vehicle.

What are we trying to achieve?

  • Develop an understanding of the needs and comfort of passengers
  • Ensure their safe passenger transportation.
  • Ensure drivers understand their legal obligation to the roadworthiness of the vehicle.

How will we do it??

This course can be adapted and based to formulate certification of the MIDAS scheme, from the Community Transport Association.

D1 License Acquisition Training

Duration:  1:1 – 3 days

2:1 – 4 days

We’ll use your choice of vehicle.

What are we trying to achieve?

  • Develop an understanding and skills that are necessary to take the Driving Standard Agency Minibus Test Category D1.
  • Develop proactive driving skills for everyday situations. Our pass rate is currently 85% first time. Our instructors not only carry the driving entitlement to teach at this level, but are also qualified DSA Grade 5/6 Instructors.

Mini Bus & Passenger Carrying Vehicles (PCVs) Defensive Driving (Theory) Course

How many in the class and how long does it last?

Class Size:   2-12

Duration:  1 day

Where is it?

At a location to suit you. We’ll need a room to deliver a theory session.

What vehicle will we use?

We’ll need you to supply sufficient vehicles for the “In vehicle” session.

What’s covered in the theory session?

  • Health and safety
  • Road risk and the specifics of driving a passenger carrying vehicle e.g. licensing requirements and drivers’ hours. Principles of defensive driving
  • Manoeuvring and parking

Delegates are encouraged to debate the problems that they face on the road. Through class participation, we examine the most common accident situations, common causes and best accident prevention practice.

What’s covered in the practical session?

  • Vehicle inspection and an eyesight check.
  • Completion of an assessed drive
  • Completion of an instructor led demonstration drive
  • Follow up drive with a focus on improving observation and planning
  • Specific manoeuvring exercises
  • Feedback and review

Passenger Carrying Vehicles

How many in the class and how long does it last?

Ratio: 1:1 or 2:1

Duration: ½ day for 1:1 or 1 day for 2:1

What vehicle will we use?

We’ll use your choice of vehicle.

What are we trying to achieve?

  • Develop heightened awareness of risk in order to produce a safer, conscientious, less stressed, and more environmentally friendly driver.
  • To develop an understanding of the needs and comforts of passengers, and to ensure their safe transportation.

How will we do it??

The methodology used will depend on the objectives set by the client and will typically consist of :

  •  A proactive driving approach, with “road based” course content
  •  Addressing the health and safety issues in driving Passenger Carrying Vehicles, with a mix of “road based” and “classroom” study.

MIDAS Driving/Accessible’ certificates can be awarded for those completing the MIDAS programme.
